CYCLING: Wyre Forest Cycle Racing club rider Steve Burns powered to his first victory of the season in the Newport CC 10 mile time trial.
On a tough day for riders in Sambrook on Saturday, Burns turned in his best result of the year after three top-10 finishes in as many weeks.
He finished the course in a superb 23 minutes four seconds with club-mate Ian Smith finishing strongly in third, despite nearly crashing on the first island and then going off course at the turn.
Smith finally completed the distance in 23-43, his own best result this season.
Mike Nichol and Alan Griffiths finished second in their first tandem race of the season together with a time of 26-31.
At the Percy Stallard National Series Road Race in Hormsdon, Kent, on Sunday, Wyre Forest's Joe Rowe was third in his age category.
The latest round combined three age categories and Rowe ended up 11th overall, moving into second place in the 50 to 55 years series table.
James Smith represented the district in the National Series Triathalon at Stratford on Sunday, working hard among 550 competitors to finish a superb 13th in his age section and 61st overall.
Meanwhile, Howard Jones and John Callaghan finished fourth and fifth respectively in their age group in the LVRC road race at Raglan, Monmouthshire.
On a mainly flat and fast circuit, both riders tried to break away from the bunch to no avail with the race finally ending in a sprint.
In the club time trial series, Chris Morris raced to his second victory in the competition, finishing the 10-mile Warndon course in an excellent 23-15.
The Worcester victory made up for last week's disappointment when he suffered a puncture after only three miles.
Dave Wood rode strongly to finish second in 24-09 with Richard Pedersen racing to his best result of the series to finish third in 24-53.
Other times: Rowe 25-07, John Parker 25-19, Callaghan 25-26, Gary Bartrum 25-47, Smith 26-13, Neil France 26-18, Chris Poole 27-02, Bill Picton 28-11, Brian Clarke 28-28, Mick Gray 29-07, Mike Nichol 29-19, Steven Clews 30-58, Eric Reynolds 32-07.
