WALKERS will be stepping out on Sunday to help a Worcester family provide a special room for their disabled son.
Friends of 11-year-old Aaron Chambers have rallied round to sign up for a sponsored walk twice around Pitchcroft and Aaron will be joining them in his wheelchair.
The Manor Park pupil has severe learning difficulties, combined with physical disabilities and behavioural problems.
Although he can be affectionate, he is hyperactive, impulsive and often aggressive towards his younger brothers, Joshua, aged six and Cameron, aged two.
His parents, Mark and Caroline, say he needs a ground floor room, both for his own benefit and to provide respite for his brothers.
Worcestershire County Council has promised £13,000 towards the project and they need to raise another £13,000 themselves.
They have already received some donations and are hoping to boost the fund with the sponsored walk and an auction of promises, which is still in the process of being arranged.
"As well as friends and family, we are expecting about 30 pupils from Nunnery Wood High School to take part in the walk, judging from the number of sponsorship forms we have been asked for.
"It's nice that so many of them want to help," said Mrs Chambers.
Sixty or 70 walkers are expected so far. Anyone else wishing to take part, to sponsor another walker, or make a donation can call Mrs Chambers on 01905 352215.
Alternatively write to her at 20, Ronkswood Crescent, Worcester, WR5 1JY.
