MEN do the most DIY around the house, but when it comes to the basic skills, women are equally capable, according to a new study.
Research conducted by the BBC DIY Show revealed that although 25 per cent of the male respondents believed they were experts, compared with five per cent of women, nearly 60 per cent of both had the same basic skills.
Psychologist Donna Dawson said: "It's great that women are at last revealed as the basic DIY experts they really are.''
Martin Stahel, of the Birmingham show said: "Most DIY tasks are actually quite easy when you know how.
"Unfortunately acquiring new skills and experience is not always as easy as it seems and a lack of knowledge can lead to DIY disaster stories."
The BBC DIY Show will be at the NEC in Birmingham for four days starting on Thursday May 20.
