ROAD safety campaigners in Norton near Evesham are preparing to name and shame companies who speed through the village or use it as a shortcut.
Members of the Norton Road Safety Campaign group have been noting the details of commercial vehicles driving through the village over the last few months and are now writing to those companies to ask them why they were using the village route rather than the bypass.
Campaign secretary Keith Woodall said: "We are not about preventing people or businesses having access to deliveries.
However, we are seeking co-operation from companies to reduce the number of vehicles cutting through the village when better use could be made of the bypass.
"We appreciate that some vehicles have genuine reasons for travelling through the village. In such cases we are simply requesting that drivers give due consideration to residents by observing the 40mph speed limit."
With the help of the police and highways officials, campaigners regularly monitor the speed and quantity of vehicles travelling through the village.
In a survey carried out in January, they recorded 200 vehicles travelling through the village in a 90-minute period, some going as fast as 59mph.
Anyone who would like to know more about the campaign can attend the group's next meeting at Norton Grange next Wednesday at 8pm.
