TWO councils are urging residents to shape up and get ready for the Mission Impossible waste challenge that is set to hit homes all over the district.
Worcestershire County Council, together with Wychavon District Council, has set the mission that challenged householders to cut the amount of waste they put out each week for collection. With the help of money-saving offers it aims to help everyone find a simple way to recycle their rubbish that fits their lifestyle and that everyone in the family can do every day.
Mission Impossible packs are going out to all houses in the district. As well as giving information in waste minimisation it also contains money-saving offers on a range of compost bins, wormeries and green cones that can help deal with kitchen and garden waste.
Carol Trehearn, Mission Impossible co-ordinator, said: "It's important people rise to the challenge. Many people think recycling and actions such as composting are not for them, but last year the residents of Wychavon threw away 47,000 tonnes of rubbish which, piled up, would cover a football pitch 21ft high. It really is time for everyone to make waste their mission."
