LEE Shuck has become one of the youngest winners of our Evening News/Fearnley Factory Shop Cricketer of the Week award.

The 14-year-old bagged our bowling prize with a match-winning spell of 7-66 playing for Ombersley seconds against Luctonians in the Crusader Worcestershire County League.

It continued a great start to the season for the leg-spinner who now has 13 wickets to his name in only two matches, and he was delighted with the way he bowled.

"There were a couple of wickets where the batsman could have played better shots," said Lee, "but I just tried to put it on the right spot and the wicket was turning which helped."

Lee, who lives in Kidderminster and is a pupil at the town's Baxter College, has been a regular in Ombersley's second team for the last two seasons and has also played a handful of games for the first team.

The batting award went to Matt McCann of Himbleton who enjoyed a weekend full of runs and wickets.

He hit an unbeaten 162 for the villagers in a friendly against Hewell, which followed on from 56 and 4-24 the previous day in a County League victory at Old Vigornians.

McCann's innings against Hewell included 11 sixes and 17 fours, his last 50 coming off just 12 balls, and the 26-year-old said: "It wasn't fantastic bowling but it was not that bad. The ball was there to be hit."

Both players win £30 vouchers to be spent at the Fearnley Factory Shop cricket equipment specialists.
