RECORD prices for South Devon females were made at the Midland South Devon Cattle Breeders Club's annual show and sale at the new Stratford livestock market at Wincot Lands, Clifford Chambers, in conjunction with the South Devon Herd Book Society.
The new venue for the club proved an excellent facility for a pedigree sale. The market, owned and built by the Cook family, had plenty of space for stalling.
Champion female and winner of the Cholwells Cup for best two-year-old heifer was David Nixey's Chiltern & Haddenham Cathy 4, bought by T J Warhurst, of Banbury, for 2000gns. Champion bull was Robert Lee's Lumbylaw Duke 63 from Alnwick, Northumberland, sold for 2,600gns. Two-year-old heifers averaged £1,238, yearling heifers £796 and cows with calves £1,222.
