I OFTEN wonder when some of the people who write to your column decrying the town last visited Evesham (Reg Bailey's letter, May 13). Of course, we all know that the sun always shone in the 1930's and that there wasn't any crime in those pre-war days.
I took a party of visitors round the town on Saturday morning - admittedly the sun was shining, Bridge Street was full of shoppers, and -there were stalls in the Market Square. They were ecstatic about it and kept on saying how lucky we were to live in a place like Evesham. They particularly admired the riverside, the parks, and envied our pedestrianised Bridge Street and Market Square. In particular they were amazed when they were told that we had a district council with an ongoing programme of projects for enhancing the town!
