YESTERDAY, we wrote that by the time the sun sets, a little of our faith in common sense will have been restored and the health of people in the county will soon see better times.

That, we wrote, was our firm expectation, based on a leaked report into funding for the eight south Worcestershire doctors' surgeries to be modernised or replaced over the next three years.

Well, now the sun has set and risen again and our faith in common sense has been restored - up to a point.

It would seem that, while funding has been allocated for seven of the new, or improved, surgeries, one has missed out.

Plans for Pershore's Abbottswood Medical Centre were not approved, and the town faces the prospect of missing out.

Some of Pershore's residents and health workers have been the most vocal during our Save our Surgeries campaign and they rightly feel devastated at the news.

Plans for the centre have not, however, been rejected out of hand.

The new medical centre is, inevitably, linked to a decision on funding for the town's proposed new community hospital. A decision is expected soon on that very issue.

The future health of the people of Pershore will be discussed at a Primary Care Trust board meeting on Wednesday, June 2.

We believe it is vital for the people of the town that the right decision is made at that meeting.

Some would say that seven out of eight is not bad. Not bad is, however, not good enough.
