PATIENTS, their relatives and carers now have a new "pal" when it comes to advice and support.

A service aimed at improving the care given to NHS patients has been re-launched with the appointment of Sue Home, the new Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) development manager.

PALS will offer confidential help, advice and support to patients, relatives and carers, and will help to guide them through the different services available from the NHS.

Mrs Home said she was very pleased to be appointed to this "very important" role, which comes under the banner of South Worcestershire Primary Care Trust, which provides health care services in the community, including GPs, nursing and therapy services, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy and community hospital care.

"The Patient Advice and Liaison Service focuses on improving the service to NHS patients by helping to sort out problems and answer questions about local health services quickly," said Mrs Home.

"People often need help and support when they use health services and sometimes, when they need assistance straight away, they don't know where to go or who to approach for help. The PALS will be easily accessible and patients should be able to make one call about their issue.

PALS can then provide information and help resolve their concerns quickly, linking with other health care agencies, Social Services and district councils where necessary."
