TWO motorbike enthusiasts are revving up for the trip of a lifetime to raise money for charity.

Jill and Stephen Bliss, from West Malvern, will be riding a Yamaha XJ900 to 105 cathedral sites on a 4,500-mile route from Land's End to John O'Groats.

The trip will raise money for the Acorns Children's Hospice Trust, which is building a hospice in Worcester to care for around 200 life-limited children from the three counties.

The building will open at the end of the year but more than £1m is still needed to equip it.

Mr and Mrs Bliss hope to raise around £4,500.

Mr Bliss, a former courier, decided to take up the challenge while working as an undertaker, where he became aware of the vital role played by children's hospices.

"When I heard of the effort Acorns was making to raise funds it seemed the ideal opportunity to make a positive contribution towards the short lives of these children," he said.

The pair will begin their trip at the new hospice site on June 28, riding first to Land's End. They will then criss-cross Britain, visiting cathedrals such as St Paul's in London, St Philip's in Birmingham and St Mary's in Glasgow, before reaching John O'Groats on July 9.

The couple hope to be back by July 11, when neighbours are planning a street party to celebrate their return.

Sponsorship forms are available from Destiny's Cafe in Edith Walk, Malvern, Forget-Me-Not florists in Avenue Road, Malvern and Lee Motorcycles in Ledbury.
