THE Malvern Hills District Hockey Tournament 2004 was won by The Chase.
The opening game of the tournament was between Malvern Hockey Club and Dyson Perrins High School. Mat Habershon scored three for Dyson Perrins as MHC was taken apart defensively and lost 3-0.
It was not to be the Malvern club's year as The Chase went on the rampage and won the second match 6-0.
A strong display from The Chase, with neat passing hockey, left MHC with little or no chance of gaining a much-needed victory. Goals from Sophie Le Gross and Harriet Lloyd were the pick of The Chase's barrage.
The Chase once again proved their strength by easily beating Dysons 4-0.
Their strength coming from county player Harriet Lloyd, who was enormously influential throughout the whole tournament, as was Isabella Somerville in The Chase goal.
A knife-edge play-off final saw The Chase and Dyson Perrins come close to breaking the deadlock but neither side could find the required last touch.
Tiredness showed all round and mistakes were being made but nobody could capitalise and the game finished 0-0.
The tournament had to be decided on penalties. Dyson Perrins had one penalty clear the cross bar, one deflect off the cross bar and one saved. The further two found their mark. The penalty of David Sheath was well executed.
The Chase had similar mixed fortunes with Robyn Newey in the Dyson's goal making two quality saves. But unfortunately it wasn't to be her day, or Dyson Perrins, as The Chase clinched the trophy with the final penalty.
