SCHOOLBOY William Johns of Worcester City Amateur Boxing Club turned in a great performance at Chippenham but lost narrowly on points.
Opponent Ian Weaver from Southampton ABC, who also represents England at schoolboy level, took the first two rounds with the more accurate boxing, avoiding the more aggressive big punches thrown by Johns.
During the closing seconds of round two, a hard body shot from Weaver dropped Johns to his knees for an eight count. Determined to finish the round, Johns used good footwork to evade the Weaver onslaught.
With a minute's rest, a fired up Johns pushed Weaver all the way in to take a brilliant final round, using good combinations to body and head.
With the final bell, the crowd rose with loud applause for a great contest between two talented schoolboy southpaws.
