BROMSGROVE Hockey Club began their 2004 Summer League campaign with a 1-1 draw at Yardley.
The visitors started brightly last Tuesday and had the better of the early exchanges, with Bevan Edwards and Ashley Clarke proving a handful for the Yardley defence.
Bromsgrove took the lead with a flowing move finished off when Graham Johns squared the ball for Clarke to calmly lift the ball over the goalkeeper.
The second half was a more open affair as both teams flagged slightly in the heat.
Yardley applied more pressure and had a succession of short corners, equalising from one such move.
Youngster Johns was unlucky not to regain the lead for Bromsgrove when his shot was deflected just wide.
