YOUNGSTERS in St Peter's will enjoy fun-packed activities over the summer holidays thanks to a new project.
St Peter's Parish Council has announced that it would make a contributory grant of up to £1,968 to Worcester City Council to help fund activities for youngsters over the summer.
At the parish council meeting on Monday night, councillors also discussed an application made by Worcester Action for Youth to Worcestershire County Council for a sum of up to £20,000 to establish provision after this period.
It was agreed that youngsters in the parish should benefit from activities offered to youngsters elsewhere in the city.
Former vice chairman Michael Recker said: "Bored youths are the biggest problem in St Peter's.
"I think we need to provide something for them to do."
Former chairman Roger Knight added: "People are concerned for the youths.
"One man said to me that if we don't do something for the youth today we'll regret if tomorrow.
"This is the toe in the water for us.
"We all need to have a starting point or we'll get nowhere."
Activities over the summer period will include a theme park trip, first aid classes, fishing and carpentry sessions.
At the Annual Parish Meeting that followed, South Worcestershire's designated antisocial behaviour co-ordinator, Sgt Christopher Allen, said although the parish did not have many areas troubled by antisocial behaviour, it needed to ensure provision was made for youngsters.
"In St Peter's there are very few youth facilities for five to 17 year olds," he said.
"You have to think about provision for the young people. They are an important part of the community.
"They will respond, and will respond positively."
