RESIDENTS can now access a wealth of information about going green simply with a click of a mouse after the new recycling section on Redditch Council's website went live.
The website reveals every household in the borough threw away more than a tonne of waste last year and shows household waste in the UK is growing at a rate of three per cent a year, far more than many other EU countries.
Ceridwen John, the council's waste management officer, said: "Over half the contents of a wheelie bin can be recycled, which means less waste has to be buried in landfill sites.
"We need to act now to limit the damage we do to our environment.
"The council is committed to supporting waste minimisation and recycling. In 2003/4, the recycling rate for Redditch was 11.6 per cent, compared to an average national rate of 12 per cent.
"We want to beat the national average this year and we're working hard to do this. We can only achieve it if people think about what they're throwing out and look to recycling as an alternative that will benefit the environment for everyone."
The website provides surfers with a useful A-Z of recycling and gives precise details of household items which are suitable for recycling.
