THE Northfield Starlets Veteran's Tony Shuttleworth Memorial Cup attracted 50 members at Moorlands Farm on Tuesday.
The cup will take pride of place on Roger Banfield's (Northfield) mantelpiece after taking a winning 93-15-0 by waggler fishing catmeat close in at Meadow pool peg 21. Eric Mitchell (Great Barr) also used catmeat on opposite peg 41 for 83-1-0; third, Margaret Astley (Lichfield), 72-12-0.
On Wednesday, the Astwood Fisheries' Bluebell pool open was won by Ashley Walker (Droitwich Angling Centre) with a pole and pellet catch of 51-0-0 from peg 17. Second placed John Halfpenny (Astwood) had 28-0-0 and third, Doug Bennett (Railway Inn), 14-8-0.
At Moorlands Farm the Bank and Moors pools open went to Dave Highfield (Moorlands) by short pole fishing corn and pellets at Bank peg 12 for 97-4-0. David James (Mosella Moorlands MG) was second with 91-3-0; third, Mal Watson (DGL), 74-2-0.
Thursday's Moorlands Farm Silver pool open saw James move up a gear to take a winning 112-12-0 catch by pole fishing pellets at peg one. Way back in second was Gavin Daley (Mosella Moorlands MG) with 67-12-0; Harry Ward (Moorlands) was third with 58-0-0.
The KH Veterans held its event on Woodland Views Barley and Hay pools. Ironically, it was peg 19 on both pools that threw up the winning weights, headed by Brian Hill (Stourport) who was on Hay where he pole fished the margins with meat and corn for 95-6-0. Harold Willey (Kidderminster) followed with 71-14-0; third, Jim Faulds (Stourbridge), 69-9-0.
Saturday saw the annual 100 AC Invitation Club Championships of 13 teams of five held at Lower Broadheath. Taking the top individual honours was Droitwich matchman Gary Brixton (Rexel AC) who pole fished pellets and casters up in the water at peg A9 on the roadside of Island pool for 41-7-0. Ralph Need (Wylde Green) followed from Island pool peg 12 with 34-8-0; third, Jeff Rush (Carrs Paint), 33-15-0. The trophy winners were Unity AC with 56 points and joint second were Brookfields AC and Rexel AC, both with 53 points.
Round two of the Moorlands Farm teams of four summer league was held on the Meadow and Moors Pools. Taking the top individual honours was Darren Clewley (Strike) who fished meat over corn at Moors peg nine for 93-8-0. Mark Tooze (Mosella Moorlands MG) followed with 80-3-0, while third was Des Shipp's (Daiwa Dorking) 82-2-0. Daiwa Dorking topped the days points table with 16; Mosella Moorlands MG 18; Strike 19. Mosella Moorlands go into the overall points lead with four; Daiwa Dorking and DGL both on five.
Sunday's Moorlands Farm open saw Shipp (Daiwa Dorking) in a winning mood by pole fishing corn and meat at Meadow pool peg nine for 140-4-0. Stuart MrCarthy (Sirhowy) took 119-6-0 for second with third going to Grant Albutt's (Daiwa Dorking) 101-2-0.
The fifth and final round of the Mallards teams of five league was held on the Staffs-Worcester Canal at Hinksford. Leading a strong field was Jeff Jarvis (Strike B) from just above the moored boats at Greensforge where he pole fished squats for a mainly Gudgeon catch of 6-13-0. Paul Ross (Turners) was second with 5-1-0; third, Brian Pollard (Mosella UK), 4-8-12. Mosella UK were the day's winners with 37 points; Turners 28; Strike A 23. League winners are Turners with 134; Lifestyle 122; Mosella UK 120.
Astwood Fisheries' Bluebell pool open was headed by Brian Williams (Triplex) with a pole and corn catch of 55-10-0 from peg 15. Owen Boswell (Stevens Tackle) was second with 34-12-8; third, Ashley Walker (Droitwich Angling Centre), 34-2-8.
Wyre Forest Fishery's Furnace Mill afternoon open was held on the Furnace and Mucky Meadow pools. In first place was Sean Moss (MN Autos) with 92-0-0 of carp taken with pole fished meat up in the water from Muck Meadow peg 36. Club mate Kevin Driver was second with 61-4-0 from Furnace peg four; third, Terry King (Greenman), taking 57-2-0.
The following waters have been booked by the Birmingham Anglers Assoiation for contests.
