EVERY day the residents of Stoke Prior, particularly on Shaw Lane and Hanbury Road on the Bromsgrove side of the low railway bridges, watch confused articulated lorry drivers approach the low bridge and then try to make a U-turn in order to get back to the A38 to take the correct route via Wychbold for the tallest lorries.
There are warning signs about low bridges on approach roads but these can be easily missed, particularly if you are a tired and confused driver coming from Eastern Europe.
The main firms in Stoke Prior, as far as I know, do not send adequate local maps to new drivers. One Romanian driver that I helped today, had a hand drawn map that told him to drive under the low bridge, when in fact his lorry was too high.
The county council has been very unhelpful in this problem which has got worse over the years. They are not prepared to add to signposts for lorry routes via Wychbold, and for the taller lorries via Hanbury.
Stoke Prior is bursting with new industry and yet the supplying roads are totally inadequate.
