A PRETTY parrot has flown the nest after doing a spot of sunbathing in the garden during the spate of fine weather.
Gypsy, a miniature Macaw, of Palmyra Road, the Oakalls, was soaking up the sun in her cage in the garden last Wednesday at about 6pm.
Her owner Dawn Lazri said: "Somehow she must have managed to get the cage door open and before we knew what had happened she had flown over the fence into the next door neighbour's garden.
"Then she disappeared and we couldn't find her. For a while we could hear her squawking."
The talkative two-year-old is predominantly green with blue and red feathers and has yellow markings around her neck.
She has an identification ring with her birth date on it. Dawn said she previously had
Gypsy's wings clipped but they had grown back.
"If we get her back, we'll have to make sure they get clipped again," she said.
Gypsy shares her cage with another parrot, Monty. "You can see he is pining for her and really misses her," said Dawn.
The mum-of-three added: "We were devastated when she disappeared, she is like one of the family. Gypsy's got such a funny character and is always mucking about.
"She imitates the sound of mobile phones and smoke alarms and is always chatting away."
Dawn said Gypsy could probably survive for quite some time outside, particularly in the warm weather and would eat the berries off trees.
Posters have gone up around the estate and the police have been alerted.
If anyone spots Gypsy they can call Dawn on 07884 434474.
