MORE homes for residents, particularly young people of Tenbury Wells, is the reason behind a new development of affordable housing in the town.
In her final week as Mayor of Tenbury, Councillor Janice Gluyas officially opened the social housing scheme, seven flats converted from the old Magistrates Court in the town centre.
The Marches Housing Association, working with a private developer and backed by Malvern Hills District Council and the Housing Corporation, will have a 14-year lease on the properties.
Association chairman Commander Carl Davis welcomed the guests to the official opening, recalling his regular visits to the old court during his time as a magistrate.
The Marches managing director David Hinchliffe said: "This is an excellent example of how to work with partners to bring empty properties back into use and provide affordable homes for local people in areas like Tenbury where this kind of accommodation is in short supply.
Significant
"This is a very significant town building and working in partnership with Malvern Hills District Council has been a rewarding experience, proving that partnership is the way forward for giving empty properties a new lease of life and providing good quality homes for the years ahead."
