MOTORSPORT: Racer Lee Bennett finished a fantastic third place in the latest UK Monoposto Single Seater Championship meeting at Mallory Park.
The Kidderminster man, driving his Team Foley Vehicle Rentals/Mortgage Doctor Reynard F3, qualified fifth for the championship's third round.
Extensive modifications were made to the car with the help of firm Kidderminster Car Bodies to make the race in Leicestershire on Sunday.
Qualifying was held in tricky circumstances as 28 vehicles tried to get into the 26-car race and traffic was a continual problem with drivers finding it difficult to get a clear lap.
Bennett got off to a poor start in the race proper, snatching the wrong gear when the cars pulled away to drop him well into the pack.
He caught Neil Harrison's F3 car and the pair battled it out over the next three to four laps before Bennett finally out-manoeuvred him.
Then the chase was on for third with Bennett catching Andy Uttley's F3 car after making up several seconds of ground and over-taking him around the outside into Gerrards corner.
After 27 laps, he crossed the line in third place with a race average speed of 104mph and now lies fourth in the championship.
The next round is on Saturday and Sunday, June 19 and 20, at Anglesey, Wales.
