ATHLETICS: Alan Jackson posted one of the fastest legs on the day as Kidderminster and Stourport tackled the National Veterans Road Relay Championships.
The club's veteran 40 team finished 37th overall at Sutton Park on Saturday, while the ladies claimed 23rd out of 30 teams.
Jackson ran 15 minutes 10 seconds for the men in one of the eight three-mile legs before Roger Russell posted an excellent 20-36 for his veteran 60 category to bring Kidderminster and Stourport home.
Earlier, Bob Park got them under way on the first leg with a good time of 17-34 but each of the 67 clubs seemed to field their top runners, leaving the district in 56th position.
But they steadily gained a number of places through Rob Czram, Stuart Grainger, Steve Smith, Gary Corbett and Harry Lambert
Times and places: Park 17-34, Czram 17-18 (up six places), Grainger 18-04 (up one place), Smith 17-03 (up four places), Corbett 16-03 (up 12 places), Lambert 17-45 (down one place), Jackson 15-10 (up 12 places), Russell 20-36 (down 11 places).
The ladies race was over three three-mile legs with Kidderminster and Stourport gaining 13 places over the stages to finish 23rd.
Times and places: Judy Harler 22-10, Julie Draper 22-35 (up two places), Nicola Evans 20-49 (up 11 places).
Stourport Sports Club, home of the athletic club, hosted the first Worcestershire Mid-Week Race League meet of the season last week.
The off-road race started and finished at the club's track, taking in Chestnut Woods and Blackstone Hill over 5.75 miles of hilly and rough terrain.
Corbett was first home for the club as second veteran 40 in a time of 34-39, followed closely by Steve Smith in 34-53.
Emma Hornby put in a great performance to finish first senior lady in 39-45 and Russell won the veteran 60 section in 43-48.
