JUDO: Two Samurai juniors are continuing to make waves on the international front.
Kelly Edwards returned from the Tournoi de Rouen in France with a silver medal, while Kate Walker has been picked to compete for Britain in a Russian tournament.
Edwards, 13, was one of two Samurai players picked from the British Cadet Squad for the Rouen international along with Greg Oertel who did not progress beyond the early rounds.
After a bye in the first round, she faced a series of opponents from France who are a strong judo nation with several million players.
Edwards won her opening contest with steady scoring and then recorded two maximum point wins through strong groundholds to take a place in the final.
She met her regular nemesis from Hull in the last two but could not repeat her training victories, despite taking the match into extra-time.
There was still no score at the end of the three minutes but Edwards watched agonised as two of the three judges declared her opponent the winner.
However, a silver medal in her first British international was a good result for the dedicated girl from Telford who travels to Kidderminster regularly.
Town teenager Walker, 14, is packing some warm clothing for a trip to St Petersburg which will host an eight-country challenge next month.
She is part of a British Judo Association development team of nine girls and boys who are seen as future Olympians.
Walker has a place in the U-57kg category and trained with the current Olympic team in their preparations for this summer's games in Greece.
