STAFF at Evesham's Tesco store are preparing to swap their pricing guns for a starting pistol when they take part in Race for Life.

As official sponsor of the Cancer Research UK fundraiser, the store's staff are aiming to set their customers a good example by running or walking the five-kilometre course. Almost 1,000 women have signed up to take part in the event, which is due to be held on June 20 at Crown Meadow.

This is the second year Evesham has held a race and Tesco employee Claire Sandalls is taking part for the first time. She said: "I am doing Race for Life because the event helps raise money for such a good cause. I know people who have died of the disease so I appreciate what an effect it can have on peoples' lives. There are a lot of people taking part from this store and we are hoping to raise thousands of pounds."

To enter Evesham's Race for Life call 08705 134314 or visit www.raceforlife.org. Entrants are advised to apply at least two weeks before race day.

The Journal would like to hear from anyone taking part in Evesham's Race for Life who has an interesting or inspiring story to tell. Contact Claire Charles on 01386 765678.

l Last week's Journal stated Ros Perry was a former dinnerlady at the Vale of Evesham School. She was in fact a former support assistant teacher.
