SHAHID Ahmed hit the wicket trail in spectacular fashion with 7-54 to win the Evening News/Fearnley Factory Shop Cricketer of the Week award.

His seven-wicket haul came during Eastnor's 20 run victory over Netherton in Division One of the Worcestershire Crusader League.

The former Pakistani international trialist bowled 19 overs straight off to claim his first wickets of the summer.

Ahmed, who took 49 wickets last season, was relieved to be back among the wickets for the Division One leaders.

"I'd been quite disappointed because I didn't practice in the winter and the first two matches I only bowled 12 overs and didn't take any wickets," said the 31-year old.

"I felt tired but was better on Saturday and am looking forward to trying to equal last season's total."

Fast bowler Ahmed, who runs a dry cleaning business in Worcester, hails from Kashmir and arrived in England in 1997.

He has played most of his cricket for Eastnor but had a couple of seasons with Stourbridge in the Birmingham league.

Lee Wilks, 29, plundered an unbeaten 133 for Pershore against Luctonians including 20 fours and four sixes in their Division One clash as they ran out comfortable winners by 205 runs.

"It was a good wicket and we had a solid foundation. They went for their shots early on and we took some quick wickets," said Wilks.

Both players win £30 vouchers to be spent at the Fearnely Factory Shop cricket equipment specialists.

Reports must reach us by 12noon on Tuesday to be considered for that week's award.
