AFTER rolling on the fourth round of the Silkolene 1400 National Rally Championship, the MG ZR crew of Bromsgrove's Nathan Crewe and Mark Ammonds were hoping for better success on round five, The Red Dragon Rally based in Swansea.
The rally used the famous Rheola and Resolven Stages featured on the Wales Rally GB World Championship event and also Walters Arena, specially built for last year's event.
The warm weather leading up to the event had dried the stage out and many competitors suffered in the dust.
Loose marble like gravel on the super fast stages made driving difficult, one mistake would send a car heading for the scenery.
The Martin Healer Development Services crew dropped time on the first loop of stages with a poor car set up, which was rectified at first service.
With an improved car set up the International Radiators backed team began clawing back the time they had lost and moved up the leader board.
While pushing hard for third place, the MG ZR crew pulled a hose off over a rough section of ground, emptying the engine of coolant, preventing the car from carrying on any further.
Having burnt the midnight oil to get the car to the event after the roll and despite being on course for the best finish of the season the pair now have to look to The Quinton Stages Rally based in Llandovery on July 10 to rescue their Championship hopes.
