AN up-and-coming star of National Hunt racing helped to open St Mary's Primary School fete in Broadway.

Lord Broadway, which is owned by Treasure Trove owners David and Jean Robinson, helped to kick off activities on The Green last Saturday, which included pony rides, a bouncy castle, cakes and stalls.

The eight-year-old horse has run 20 times and has won two races and been placed seven times.

He was also unlucky to be disqualified in a controversial race in Towcester after coming first because the stewards had left the wing of a hurdle behind after removing the jumps and Lord Broadway went up the inside.

Mr Robinson said: "He came fourth at Cheltenham only a couple of months ago so we've got high hopes for him. We're hoping to get him in the Grand National next year."

The fete raised more than £2,000 towards new computer facilities at the school and two committee members at St Mary's, Bernadette Icke and Nuala Barker, added another £100 to the total by taking part in a 10km fun run in Redditch last Sunday.
