ORGANISERS of Kidderminster carnival were delighted when generous shoppers donated £630 to their street collection - but are keen to give one coin back to its owner.

The search started after a lucky silver threepenny piece, dating back to 1843, was tipped into a collecting tin outside B &Q on May 15, by accident.

The woman owner did not realise her mistake until she had emptied the change from her purse into the tin, which could not be opened and now carnival chairman, Colin Hill, is appealing for her to get in touch.

"We found it later while counting the coins and I am keeping it safe in the hope that she will contact me so I can return it," said Mr Hill.

The proceeds from the collection will go towards Wyre Forest Age Concern's Minibus Appeal.

Mr Hill added: "We did a collection at the store last year for the first time and raised just over £400, so to collect £630 was absolutely brilliant."

The carnival will take place on Saturday, June 19 and anyone wishing to book a stall at the Brinton Park Showground or wanting to enter the parade can contact Mr Hill on 01562 751634.
