DEATH crossing...why do we need to get a multilingual message across at a level crossing when car drivers should be in possession of a British driving licence, and incidentally insurance, which automatically requires the applicant to be able to speak and read English?

I deplore this ever increasing practice to accommodate people who contemptuously disregard the law and customs of this country but are quick to take advantage of the social and financial benefits - and in this case, it's liberal laws

The sympathy and concern for this driver amazes me; he among others knew that he was illegally in charge of this vehicle and that he was exploiting other less fortunate immigrants, and I have to say, it didn't take him long to find the loop-hole, because it suited them to ignore it and contract his cheap labour.

Chief Inspector David Lestor's anodyne statement does nothing to root out the abuse of the system and the immigrant workers. Instead of wringing his hands, shouldn't he be finding out where the van came from? And holding an inquiry to ensure the well-being of future immigrant workers in local factories? It's difficult to believe this was the first group provided from this source.

As for the judgement of 2 years disqualification from driving! The man killed 3 people for a quick profit. Is life to become as cheap in England as it is in the world the workers are fleeing?

The sooner the Bill , no matter how imperfect, is made into law the better, not that it will deter those seeking cheap labour at any price.
