SPEED restrictions and temporary closures will be necessary at times on sections of the M5 between Bromsgrove and Tewkesbury in the next 18 months.
Work to upgrade the communication systems between the M42 link at Junction 4A and the M50 link at Junction 8, is fixed to begin on Wednesday, June 2.
The £11m scheme on behalf of the Highways Agency will include installing variable message signs, traffic detection loops and CCTV cameras.
These will provide information to help co-ordinate traffic flows and inform motorists of delays.
There will be a 50mph speed restriction on stretches where work is taking place and traffic will sometimes be reduced to a single lane at night.
One lane of the slip roads at junctions 5, 6, 7 and 8 may be closed in turn at off-peak times.
These slip roads may also be completely closed at night while traffic detection loops are installed.
Hours of work will be 7am to 5pm and 8pm to 6am.
