BERT Moffatt and Jean Cresswell would like to thank everyone for their continued support, enabling them on this occasion to raise funds for Cancer Research and Corse Church, especially Jane Langford and Mervyn Gould for not only raising funds, but accompanying them to British Camp on their double marathon hills peaks challenge. It was disappointing that no other walkers accompanied them for the complete distance but they hope to do it again some time in the future, so walkers get prepared!
Apart from a little light rain early in the morning the weather was ideal for walking, starting from Fernlea Cottage at the base of Chase End Hill at 9am, they ascended Chase End Hill followed by Ragged Rocks Hill, descending to the road at Hollybush and continuing over the summit of Midsummer Hill. Then on to the summit overlooking Castlemorton Common followed by Hangman's Hill and the fort, before descending to the road at British Camp, enjoying a picnic lunch with Jane and Mervyn. Bidding farewell to their fellow walkers, Bert and Jean continued over the summit of all the peaks, including Jubilee Hill to descend to the road at Wyche Cutting.
Then began the ascent to the highest peak of the Malverns, Worcestershire Beacon, stopping briefly to enjoy the 360 degree view where it's said, you can see seven counties. Then descending the north side of the hill and over another peak before ascending North Hill and a number of smaller peaks before descending to the B4232, completing the outward journey.
The walkers then immediately commenced their return journey retracing their steps, stopping for a second break for refreshments on the lower slopes of North Hill, basked in lovely sunshine. Feeling refreshed the couple continued back to British Camp after another break and refreshments, eventually completing the challenge back at Fernlea Cottage just after 7pm. Bert and Jean still have to get all their sponsor money in so watch this space for further news!
