GLEAMING traction engines and steamrollers will take to the roads around the Malvern Hills this bank holiday weekend.

The vintage vehicles will take part in a drive from Eastnor Castle to Hollybush and back, as part of the Eastnor Steam and Woodland Fair being held in the castle grounds.

This year's fair should be real treat for steam enthusiasts as there will also be a wide range of working steam models, demonstrating the versatility of good old-fashioned steam power.

The combined steam and woodland fair will have a wide range of attractions, including a display of enormous chainsaw sculptures and a lumberjack tree-felling demonstration.

"It's very exciting to combine our two most popular shows over the bank holiday weekend and we're looking forward to having a record number of engines and visitors," said Eastnor Castle owner James Hervey-Bathurst.

Local craftsmen will be showing off their traditional skills with demonstrations from basket makers, wood-turners and furniture makers. Coppice crafts will also be on show, along with trade stands selling garden products and craft items. There will also be a pig roast and bar.

For children, there will be face-painting, model railway rides and the chance to drive around the castle grounds in mini off-road Land Rovers.

The fair will also host gun dog trials, ferret racing and clay pigeon shooting contests. There will also be a chance to have a go at archery and see a falconry display.

"The fair has been very popular in previous years and we're expecting thousands of visitors over the weekend," said organiser Katie Hollamby.

The Steam and Woodland Fair is being held on Sunday (May 30) and Monday (May 31), starting at 10.30am. Tickets are £6.50 for adults and £4 for children, including admission to the fair, the castle and the grounds.
