PAYPHONES in Upton have been earmarked for removal following a BT survey.
The increased use of mobile phones has been blamed for a decline in the use of payphones and two of Upton's five payphones are now losing money.
Phone boxes at Queensmead, Brotheridge Green and Hanley Road car park are currently under review.
At a meeting of Upton Town Council last week, members agreed that they had no objection to the removal of the phone at Gilvers Lane, in Brotheridge Green, but were strongly opposed to the loss of the Hanley Road phone.
One phone has already been removed from the car park and the council has previously objected to the removal of the other.
Members of the public have until June 16 to make representations to BT about the removal of the phones.
