BUS users in Fruit-lands, Malvern Wells are to lose a regular all-day service.

From June, the First Midland Red 42 service, which runs regular half-hourly services to Great Malvern, will be reduced to peak times only.

To reduce the impact, Worcestershire County Council says it will run a Flexi Link minibus from Fruitlands into Malvern and back twice in the middle part of the day.

Fruitlands resident Harry Myers said he was worried about the new changes.

"I had heard that the service was disappearing completely. I think the bus companies should do a better job of keeping people informed," he said.

Mr Myers, who is retired, said he thought the old service was well used but was glad to hear of a replacement.

First Midland Red's Dave Maceijewski said: "The only services that have been dropped are those from Fruitlands to Malvern after 9am and before 3.30pm. These services were not used by many people and were simply not commercial.

"We're sorry for the few people who did use the buses at these times from Fruitlands but we're confident that the council's new service will suit them."

Precise details will be available on buses from the last week in May and from Malvern's Tourist Information Centre.

The new Fruitlands service is just one of the changes to bus services in the area.

The new Flexi Link service will allow people to book the bus to come to their village.

It will run on demand from the Malvern area to Upton-upon-Severn and Tewkesbury on most days of the week.

The Flexi Link service linking Malvern, Malvern Wells and Upton with Worcester currently has three-four buses each way daily but will become an hourly service.
