MRS L T Tipping's attitude regarding George Cowley is not to be applauded.

Regarding the letters page of this newspaper, I generally look for the comments of regular contributors e.g. Messrs Hinton, Margrett, Griffin and certain others for their - which for me - are stimulating and, at times, soul-searching views.

At the same time, a break from the serious side of one's thoughts are equally important, and the comments of Mr Cowley, be they at times outrageous, are, for me, entertaining.

And I admire the Letters Editor for having the courage to print Mr Cowley's daily musings. So open your mind, Mrs Tipping.

JOHN EVANS, Kempsey.

AS to my "knowing it all," Mrs Tipping (You Say, Wednesday, May 19) there is an old Eastern saying - "The further one travels, the less one knows."

I'm an OAP who lives alone, and derive great pleasure from my writing. Quite a few of my letters hopefully raise a smile, in what is usually a deadly serious page.

If the Editor stopped printing my letters, I'd stop writing them. Tell him off, not me.

GEORGE COWLEY,

Warndon, Worcester.
