THIS weekend sees the reunion of one of the most successful rugby teams to emerge from The Chase school.
The class of 1997, who were coached to victory in four out of five consecutive district cup finals by former Chase PE master Mark Cox and his successor Matt Kelly, will be in action again when they play the Malvern College 1st XV on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 2.30pm).
The match will also be the first for the Malvern College side this season and many of the students taking the field on Sunday afternoon will be keen to impress Andy Logan and his fellow rugby masters to claim a first team berth.
The match will also be a good occasion for the senior members of Malvern Rugby Club who are often distracted by the fortunes of the Malvern 1st XV, to assess the talented young players they have waiting in the wings.
In fact the match will be the ideal opportunity for individuals such as Adam Dixon, Stuart Clark, Jason Tolley and Stephen Bowen, to demonstrate their full potential to their older peers and senior club officials.
It is hoped that Mark Cox will make an appearance for the ex-Chase pupils and inspire his former charges to victory against Malvern College. However, with the all-important 1st XV colours up for grabs, the students from Malvern College will certainly have other ideas.
The Chase squad will be represented by: John Jelly, Matt Hipwell, Stephen Bowen, Adam Woodhouse, Simon Baker, Stuart Clark, Simon Puttick, Jason Tolley, Jon Wall, Adam Dixon, Stuart Bryant, James Clarke, Jon Avery, Ollie Endicott, Ben Green, Nick Clark, Mark Hooper, Chris Edwards, Mike Wenden and Warwick Hiley. The squad will meet at 1.30pm at the Malvern College playing fields along Court Road in Barnards Green.
