POP star wannabes will be getting in tune for week two of the RSVP Idol competition.

Throughout the summer, the Worcester bar will give scores of ordinary people with a talent for singing the chance to savour the limelight.

And there may be an opportunity to experience more lasting fame, as talent scouts have been invited along to each show.

Last Monday saw the first batch of finalists being put through their paces.

This Bank Holiday, the second group of singers will be performing in front of judges and an audience, each hoping to win the top prize of £1,000.

The two groups of nine will each perform in live heats on alternate weeks. From week three there will be two eliminations per week.

In week nine four will be knocked out, leaving the last four for the grand final on Monday August 2.

Jolie Mason has been singing since the age of 10.

My dad is the drummer in a soul band so I've been brought up with music. It inspired me to get out there and do it on my own, said the Royal Worcester Porcelain worker.

I'm really nervous but really looking forward to it. It's a chance to show what I can do.

I've done competitions before but it would be nice to do a local one.

The 22-year-old, of Battenhall Road in Battenhall, Worcester, loves soul music and will sing Joss Stone's Fell in Love with a Boy in her first performance.

Kerrie McTigue put her dream of becoming a star to one side when she had her children.

The mother-of-two loves soul music and tunes from the 60s.

I'm doing this for recognition, she said.

This was my plan when I left school at 15, but because I had my children I decided to get a drama degree for a more solid future, but still do something I love in the industry.

If I get through, every week will be one step closer to my goal," added the 20-year-old, of Malvern Road in St John's, Worcester.

Marie Louise Doe entered the first series of BBC One's Fame Academy but narrowly missed her chance to be a star, getting down to the final 18.

The 20-year-old has also entered countless karaoke competitions and will sing Can't Fight the Moonlight by Leanne Rhymes in heat one.

"I'm looking forward to it," said the sales assistant from Malvern.

"It's been a while since I've done anything like this. It's a real confidence-booster.

"If I won, my boyfriend would want me to spend the money on a holiday.

Dave Rowley loves everything from ballads to rock music and is a fan of boy band Westlife.

He sings in pubs, clubs and parties throughout Herefordshire and Worcestershire and will sing Your Game by Will Young on Monday night.

"Once I get over the first few seconds of nerves I get into the song," said the 31-year-old account manager from Malvern.

"This is the highlight of the year so far.

"If I won I'd spend the money on a holiday to Tenerife.

Andy Faull has sung from an early age and heard about the competition on a night out in RSVP.

"I'm really excited, I think it will be a really good experience," said the 21-year-old.

"I went on Monday to see the first group and I thought they were all very good.

"I get a real buzz from singing and just wanted to get up there and sing," added the Tesco manager of Whitewood Close in Whittington, Worcester.

Andy entered Pop Idol but did not get through the first round.

Rachel Moulden featured in the Evening News last Saturday.

The 20-year-old DJ from Dunley, in Worcestershire has been swapped into group two.

"I'm going to be terrified. I love singing, and it's doing it in front of others that terrifies me," she said.

"But once I get going I think I'll enjoy it.

Aimee Browne works as a sales administrator during the week, and sings in pubs, clubs and holiday camps at the weekends.

She loves Cher and Sister Sledge and has a "strong and powerful voice."

"It's quite exciting. I was there on the first night and saw some amazing talent there," said the 19-year-old, of St John's in Worcester.

"It's really exciting to meet new people and friends who are into singing and performing.

"The audience vote is the scary part.

Philip Waring loves singing in pubs and clubs and enjoys karaoke competitions.

"I think this competition is a good idea, I didn't expect to get through because of my age," said the 51-year-old.

"I've got butterflies, I feel a bit nervous but once I'm up there and hear the music it's OK," added the painter and decorator, of Portefields Road in Tolladine, Worcester.

He will sing Joe Cocker's version of The Letter on Monday.

Also singing will be Michael Beard who was not available to talk to the Evening News before Monday's show.
