CHAIRMAN Colin Youngjohns is determined to ensure Kidderminster Harriers don't fall victim to the 'financial melt down syndrome' which is affecting many clubs throughout the country.
Harriers are set to reveal a profit at their next annual meeting of shareholders despite having made a number of improvements to their Aggborough headquarters over the last year.
Spectator facilities have been improved with the construction of the East Stand with a new floodlight system also being installed.
"All of it paid for without the need for significant borrowing," says Youngjohns.
He added that Harriers' efforts to keep their heads above water financially were 'remarkable' in view of the difficulties they have to over-come to maintain their status in the Nationwide League Division Three.
He highlights their limited financial resources, small fan base and 'the on-going financial melt down syndrome affecting many clubs in the game today' ranging from near neighbours Telford United to Leeds United.
Youngjohns said: "In both cases, and the many football clubs similarly affected from the Conference through to the Premiership, the causes are usually the same.
"It is the headlong pursuit of 'glory' by 'ambitious' directors without perhaps enough thought given to the consequences for the club further down the line."
Despite their financial restrictions, however, Youngjohns is optimistic of a bright future for Harriers, saying: "Next season we hope to considerably improve our league position and make a concerted pushed for honours."
