A WEEK in politics is a long time according to the famous saying, and after reading with interest your article featuring Richard Udall (Evening News, Tuesday, May 18) I must agree.
Mr Udall says he's concerned that Worcester is fast becoming a dormitory city and he is worried that people in the area have to travel long distances to work.
Has Mr Udall lost his memory I wonder? At a recent Hereford & Worcester Fire Authority meeting the chairman, Mr Udall, openly stated that he was fully supportive of a regional fire control.
This means that the control, at brigade HQ, Copenhagen St, which mobilises fire engines to incidents throughout the county, will be moved to another part of the country i.e Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands and so on.
Long distances
Apart from the obvious consequences of fire control staff having to travel very long distances to and from work, this means that the public who are at present being asked to pay more for the brigade will not have their own control in their own county.
Mr Udall stated he would resign if the government ploughs ahead with the capping of the brigade. Do us all a favour and close the door on your way out.
