PAUL Tillesley of the League Against Cruel Sports (You Say, Friday, May 5) confirmed that LACS do actually cull deer on their animal sanctuaries.
However, this conflicts with the position of LACS chief executive Douglas Batchelor. According to reports in the media, Mr Batchelor has maintained there is no need for deer culling.
Mr Batchelor has also claimed that deer regulate their own numbers and makes much of the fact that the League does not cull deer on their land.
For people on either side of the hunting debate these wildly opposing positions need clarification to say the very least.
With Mr Tillesley being considerate enough to write to the Evening News with a partial explanation of deer killing by LACS, he might also care to offer an opinion on two other points.
First, why did Graham Sirl, the previous head of LACS West Country operations leave LACS and reportedly state the following.
''I have come to the conclusion that in the event of a total hunt ban the deer population will be decimated''.
Second, why have so many LACS chief executive and senior officers left the company to oppose a hunt ban on the grounds of animal welfare?
