A LIGHTNING strike has killed a Kidderminster man who was taking part in a national model plane competition.
Peter Harris, aged 63, who lived in Baldwin Road, died on Sunday, as he cycled across the runway at RAF Barkston Heath, in Lincolnshire, to collect his aircraft.
One of two lightning bolts struck him, and despite attempts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead on arrival at Grantham Hospital.
As a mark of respect, the British Model Flying Association cancelled Sunday's events and held a tribute on Monday.
There were two bolts of lightning - one which struck this gentleman and another which hit our main hangar and took out all the electrics, said competition organiser Roy Wright.
None of the competitors witnessed the incident and organisers were alerted by motorists who saw what had happened.
We hadn't had a drop of rain all weekend and then suddenly this thunderstorm breaks out, added Mr Wright.
