OLD Elizabethans' second team produced a much improved performance in defeating Penn at The Memorial Ground.

OEs inserted Penn on a good pitch and were rew-arded with two early wickets.

Eaton and Homer then produced a patient 80-run stand for the third wicket leaving the visitors well- placed to post a big score.

Scott Butler then grabb-ed three wickets before the introduction of some slower bowling to arrest the scoring rate. A late flurry from the lower order batsmen saw Penn post a score of 207 for 7.

The reply got off to a poor start when Chris Dale went cheaply early on but a superb partnership of 112 between teenager Jamie Boyle and Jim Hale laid a fantastic platform from which to go for the runs. Hale made a fluent 65 while Boyle went on to make 60. Kevin Tipper (55no) then scored his second consecutive half-century as the home side ran out comfortable winners reaching the target with two overs to go.

n The third eleven suffer-ed a heavy defeat against Stourbridge in their leag-ue encounter.

Having been inserted on a wet pitch OEs struggled to mount any sort of score.

Brian Lewis played well for 27 and Nick Pullan blasted a quick-fire 25. It was Russell Barton who laid some respectablity to the OEs total with an un-beaten 58 including three sixes from the last over as the visitors made 145-8.

With the pith drying out batting was much more comfortable a propostition for the home team. Pete Clarke scored an undefeated 78 as Stourbridge romped home by nine wickets in good time.
