WORCESTER Warriors are ex-pecting a decision from Matt Burke by the end of this week.

The newly-promoted club, who have made an offer to the Wallaby legend along with fellow Premiership outfit Newcastle, are hoping that the 31-year-old will give Sixways the nod by Friday.

The former New South Wales Waratahs talisman, who is back in Australia to prepare for the Tri Nations series, is considering his options after the two English offers plus surprising interest from the Waratahs' great rivals Queensland Reds.

"Any move is still in a very delicate stage," said Worcester's director of rugby John Brain.

"Matt has gone back to Australia now to make his decision. He'll be talking to his wife about his options and we expect a decision by the end of the week.

"We remain hopeful but we have not put all our eggs in one basket. Matt has two offers from England on the table and we know that Newcastle can offer European rugby.

"We know that they have Jonny Wilkinson in their side, which is also an attraction.

"However, I think Worcester have something to offer and we intend to make an impact next season in the Premiership."

Brain has also revealed that, if the Burke deal falls through, there could be enough room in the Sixways budget to bring in a full back and a winger.

The Worcester chief was looking at just two more new faces for the season ahead with a full back and a hooker to come. However, there are still a number of permutations.

"We may well look at bringing another winger to the club but a lot depends on the Burke deal," he added.

Worcester have Daren O'Leary, Thomas Lombard and Jon Hylton as wingers on the books along with new signing Dale Rasmussen who can also play out wide.

With academy young guns Martin Freeman and Uche Oduoza, Brain is hoping that the National One champions will have enough finishing power alongside Burke.

n Ben Hinshelwood has been dropped by Scotland for their clash with New South Wales tomorrow. Worcester's centre, who played in Scotland's 41-5 defeat against Queensland on Saturday, has to be satisfied with a bench place with Edinburgh's Marcus Di Rollo preferred at 13.
