POLICE have quashed reports that they plan to re-investigate the brutal crimes of serial killer Philip Smith.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said neither they nor the National Crime Faculty are reviewing any cases but they did periodically review outstanding cases against convicted offenders.

"As in all cases, following his arrest, police investigated whether there were links between Philip Smith and other matters," she said. "He was not charged with any other matters aside from those for which he stood trial."

Initial reports that a reinvestigation had been ordered appeared in a Midlands newspaper.

Smith was given three life sentences in July 2001 after pleading guilty at Leicester Crown Court to murdering three women during a 96-hour spree in November 2000.

One of the victims, 25-year-old Rosemary Corcoran was found on Remembrance Sunday, behind the Robin Hood pub at Rashwood, near Droitwich.
