REDDITCH Cricket Club secured their first league win of the season at the weekend lifting them off the foot of the Birmingham League Division Three.

And continuing their good form the Bromsgrove Road men managed a draw with Kings Heath - a team Redditch captain Dan Protherough thinks are the best side Redditch have played this season.

With six games gone Redditch now sit third from bottom with Evesham, the side they beat on Saturday and Olton just below them.

Protherough told The Advertiser: "It was an excellent victory .

Nev Mason really bowled superbly but the whole team really showed up."

Redditch put Evesham into bat and soon gained the upper hand with Mason showing immaculate control, taking 6-46 off 21 overs with Richard Young, in his first match of the season taking 4-30.

The Redditch attack soon mopped up the tail, leaving Evesham all out for 132.

In their reply, Dan Protherough 20 and the imperious Joe Hill 73 put on 61 for the first wicket before Chris Gibson knocked an impressive 29 which eased Redditch to an important eight-wicket victory.

On Monday Redditch were chasing a massive 233 put on by Kings Heath but held firm to take a draw ending with 146 for eight.

Redditch CC will be hoping their good form continues as they face an away trip to Lichfield on Saturday.
