INSPIRED performances by Droitwich Spa Cricket Club stars last weekend ensured the club's First XI remain the only unbeaten side in Worcestershire County League Division One.
Spa, up to sixth in the table, beat Netherton by three wickets at St Peter's Fields last Saturday and secured a commendable winning draw at league favourites Ombersley on Monday.
South African-born star and all-rounder Andy Van Vuuren set the standard by taking an impressive 7-68 against Netherton before contributing 64 in a match-winning partnership with Craig Everett.
And Australian Matt Leddin followed suit by firing a maiden century for the club of 115 against Ombersley's bowling attack of county second player Calvin Flowers, Shropshire regular Neil Slade and ex-Worcestershire all-rounder Duncan Catterall.
Captain and wicketkeeper Steve Walsh was also in useful form, taking five catches against Netherton and a further three, as well as a stumping, against Ombersley.
Not surprisingly, Walsh is relishing the opportunity to host league leaders Pershore this Saturday (1.30pm).
"It will be a tough game but it's probably a good time to play a team top of the league," he said.
"We are still the only unbeaten side in the league. Although we have had a couple of losing draws it's a nice feeling to be unbeaten."
The captain was also delighted with his team's effort over the Bank Holiday weekend, hailing Leddin's display as one of the best tons seen at the club in recent years because of the bowling quality.
Walsh added: "He (Van Vuuren) had a very good game on Saturday, which was fantastic. So far he is the leading wicket taker with 16. He's a big hitter of the ball, which is useful.
"Mike Rogers bowled really well, they worked as a partnership. This time Andy got the wickets, another time it could be different."
