THE match scene got underway this week with the Woodland View Tuesday Affordable open, held on Deans pool.

In first place was Mike Williams (Phoenix Shrewsbury) by pole fishing corn and meat at peg 62 for 85-5-0. Steve Roberts (Rod & Gun) followed with 73-10-0, with third place going to Keith Arathoon (Coka Cola) with 65-3-0.

Northfield Starlets Veterans held their event on Elmbridge's Heron and Peacock pools. Ken Giles (Alvechurch) headed a close result by alternating corn and worms at Peacock peg 15 for 39-6-0. Runner-up Stan James (Bewdley) had 36-0-0 from Heron peg 23; third, Bill Drew (Bewdley), 24-0-0.

On Wednesday, the Astwood Fisheries' Bluebell pool open went to Peter Bailey (Droitwich Angling Centre) with a pole and corn catch of 75-6-0 from peg seven. Team mate Ashley Walker followed with 55-14-0; third, Paul Webley (Kateshill AC), 44-10-0.

Moorlands Farm's Meadow pool open produced a ton-up catch of 103-6-0 for Giles Cochrane (Welsh Wizards) by ledgering corn and meat at peg 37. Second place went to Eric Banner (Edgbaston) with 71-5-0, while third was Carl Astbury's (Beechdale MG) 71-1-0.

Thursday's Moorlands Farm costcutter open was held on the Moors pool where Harry Ward (Moorlands) short poled catmeat for a 121-4-0 winning catch. Astbury (Beechdale MG) took second place with 85-12-0; third, Neil Claddle (Moorlands), 74-2-0.

The KH Veterans were at Moorlands Farm's Silver pool and it was Harold Willey (Kidderminster) who took a close verdict with pole fished catmeat over pellet feed for 32-1-0 from peg 32. Dennis Heath (Northfield) was second with 31-8-0; third, Mick Scott (Bewdley), 30-3-0.

On Friday, David James (Moorlands Mosella MG) found the carp in a feeding mood by pole fishing corn, meat and pellets at Meadow pool peg 58 for a 153-9-0 catch. Steve Harris (Strike) followed with 83-6-0; third, Harry Ward (Moorlands), 65-12-0.

Terry Robson (20 AC) won Woodland Views' Afternoon Deans pool open with a pole, corn and meat catch of 86-11-0 from peg one. Club mate Tim Guise was second with 78-5-0 and third, John Knight (Willow Creek), taking 71-13-0.

Round three of the Moorlands Farm Summer League for teams of four took place last Saturday. Topping a close individual score sheet was Neil McKinnon (Shakespeare) who long poled meat at Meadow pool peg 15 for 71-2-0. Second, Darren Clewley (Strike), had 68-14-0, with third going to Paul Filmore's (Mosella South West) 68-8-0. The day's points winners were Welsh Wizards with ten points; Moorlands Tackle 17; Mosella South West 18. Overall league leaders are Mosella South West with seven and joint second are Top 4's and DGL with 11.

Broad Acres Main lake open saw Triplex AC members fill the top three places and it was Bromsgrove's Paul Webley who showed the way by pole fishing the margins of peg eight with catmeat to take 49-6-0. John Harris took 30-12-0 for second; third, Steve Brelsforth's 27-12-8.

Woodland View's Deans pool open was a close affair with Alan Jones (DGL) taking the verdict with a pole, worm, caster and pellet catch of 77-10-0 from peg 34. Klaus Fix (Tek Neek Trabucco) was second with 69-1-0; third, Richard Lawson (Lifestyle VDE), 59-5-0.

Sunday's Woodland View open took place on Deans and High pools. Tony Morton (Preston Innovations) had carp up to ten pounds in his winning 118-11-0 catch, taken with pole corn and pellets from Deans peg 35. Callum Dicks (Daiwa Dorking) followed with 92-2-0; third, Lee Pestacio (Mosella Welsh Wizards), 65-6-0.

Astwood Fisheries' Bluebell pool open again saw peg seven throw up the top weight taken by Tony Delves (Spa MG) by waggler fishing worms to the island for 114-11-0. Mark Bradley (Scotties Tackle) took 49-10-0 for second with third going to Paul Savings' (Sheldon Heath) 49-1-0.

Wyre Forest's Furnace Mill's open was held on the Mill pool which saw Jez Williams (Storeys) take a close result by pole fishing chopped worms at peg 81 for 53-6-0. John Newton (Furnace Mill) was second with 53-3-0; third, Brian Wood (Furnace Mill), 41-4-0.

Triplex AC held its second Bye contest on Astwood Fisheries' Buddleia pool. This match could not have seen a closer result with Kings Norton matchman Kevin Saxelby taking the verdict by pole fishing at 16 metres to the island from peg 62 for 30-2-0. Ricky Keenan was second with 29-15-0 and third, S Smith with 29-1-0.

The following waters have been booked by the Birmingham Anglers Association for contests.
