I WRITE in response to a letter featured in the Advertiser on May 26, written by Miss L Goodall.

I think I have received correspondence from Miss Goodall at my home address but unfortunately she never left a name or address so I have not been able to contact her. I wish to make the following points:

At present we are opposing plans for a further 60 dwellings, not plans for a shop, takeaway or nursery.

The price of the houses is irrelevant, whether they are £400,000 or £80,000 is of no interest to me, the point is that the Oakalls, and Bromsgrove in general, does not need any more houses.

If Miss Goodall would go and look at the plans, she will see that behind her will be built two-storey apartments blocks and two car parks.

We bought our house on the basis that no houses would be built next to us and now suddenly planning permission is being sought for a further 60.

As a "rural village," the Oakalls deserves some sort of facilities. Should plans be re-submitted for, for example, takeaways, I will oppose them as well. We are not fighting that at present.

I feel we have been deceived. I have suggested exactly what you are suggesting, a small store where we can buy newspapers etc. I also feel the nursery would benefit the community in general, there are lots of young families on the estate.

As a "rural village" I would question whether we need a car park for the shop -- traditional village shops don't have car parks and we don't need one either.

All I want to do at present is stop this development of 60 dwellings -- whatever comes next we will deal with separately.

I would like to point out that I have a teenage daughter who certainly does not sit at the bottom of Royal Worcester Crescent drinking alcohol and nor do her friends. She takes great offence at your general remarks.

I have a daughter of 11. If she wants to buy sweets or an ice cream or a magazine I would prefer it if she could do so in the safety of the estate and not take her life in her hands crossing the road into Bromsgrove or wandering into Aston Fields.

Let me make myself clear, I don't want 60 dwellings, I don't want a large retail unit, I don't want takeaways or large car parks. I would like a small store, the nursery we were promised and then landscape the land and provide a small children's play area.

I have had calls from lots of people in support of this. Some people are disabled, some elderly, lots have young families and they all just want somewhere local to buy everyday things.

If you had left your name with me in the first place instead of writing anonymously, I would have been able to reassure you that we probably agree on most things.
