AT a time when parents are frantically going to Westminster to enlist high-powered support to save Thornton House school, life at Thornton House goes on as normal.
I thought readers would like to know that Thornton House school has just received two prestigious awards.
First, the Investors In People Award. I have read the high praise given from the adjudicator and was in awe at the level of commitment given by senior staff.
Second, the school has just won an award for healthy eating. The school has freshly-made meals made on the premises by highly-skilled staff.
The school has to pay thousands of pounds out of its budget to ensure the children who attend receive the highest quality, home-cooked, healthy food. Some of the children are on strict diets and these are catered for, too.
Many of your readers stop me in the street to express their concern that we are obliged to fight for our children's education like this.
I am full of admiration for the commitment to our children displayed by all the staff at Thornton House. At a time when staff morale must be low (not that we are parents ever see it) it must be good for them to feel valued - even if they don't feel valued by our own local education authority!
