A RUBERY video store is marking its End of Days with a Titanic sale and exhibition.

Steve Kennedy is planning his Great Escape, after more than 20 years at the helm of Oscars Videos.

To mark the occasion Steve will be inviting residents into his store for the next couple of Saturdays to view the wealth of silver screen memorabilia.

"It will be a real tribute to cinema over the decades," said Steve.

He spent last Thursday dressing up the shop with original film posters, from Madmax to James Bond and from Gone With the Wind to Back to the Future.

"There will also be posters and old films for sale so villagers can pick up a bargain," he said.

The movie fan is shutting up shop following a decline in trade.

"Video rentals have pretty much run their course now. People can now buy them at a very cheap price from the supermarkets, so no longer bother hiring them," he said.

Steve reckons that over the years he has seen thousands of faces drop by his store to rent or buy a copy of their favourite film. He has also held a variety of fun-events, including getting his staff to dress-up as cowboys to mark the release of Maverick, starring Mel Gibson.

"This will be a great opportunity to say goodbye to everyone. A lot of members still don't know we won't be here anymore," he added.

Oscars Videos will be open on Saturdays between 9am and 6pm for the next couple of weeks.

"I will be there as long as people are still interested," said Steve.
